Helen’s Trust annual 10k and 3k runs took place on Sunday 30th June in the beautiful grounds of the Chatsworth Estate. This challenging but rewarding 10k run is a multi-terrain course which winds its way through the spectacular grounds and woodland tracks of the estate before opening out onto the moor top for scenic views- the scenery is second to none.
The 10k race is a mass participation run, open to runners of all levels and abilities and this year many people took to the start line. Successive years have seen levels of participation continue to rise, with 2019 one of the most popular races to date, with over 1,000 runners signing up. Almost 200 runners registered for the more leisurely 3k Family Fun Run which followed directly after the 10k race.
The race has become a prestigious, popular event thanks to the historic venue and this year enjoyed donations and sponsorship from 18 businesses including Ideal Shopping Direct and Irwin Mitchell Solicitors in Sheffield who manned and sponsored the water station.
With food and coffee stalls, a vintage Prosecco van, and games and face painting for children it has become a day for all the family to enjoy. Baslow Physiotherapy donated post race massages and Bloomers of Bakewell donated Bakewell puddings for the first 250 runners. This year first, second and third in the race were Daniel Haworth from Matlock Athletics Club, Stuart Bond also from Matlock and Andy Harding from Belper Ten Twenty Triathlon Club. Ellie Stevens from Birchfield Harriers, Amy Clark from Buxton and District AC and Kelly Butler triumphed for the women. Daniel’s winning time was 33 minutes and 32 seconds with Ellie completing the course in 38 minutes and 33 seconds.
Zoe Woodward, race director and Fundraising and Business Manager at Helen’s Trust said: “This year’s race was a great success as we have raised over £30,000 for our charity. We’d like to thank our army of volunteers who really stepped up and helped make the event a huge success. We had over 60 volunteers come and help on the day. From the marshals who directed and encouraged the runners, to the car park attendants and people who manned our stalls we couldn’t have asked for more. It’s these volunteers that make our 10k such a friendly and special event and all gave up their time to ensure everyone enjoyed a safe run. Roll on 2020!”
