Brian and Audrey
Brian and Audrey met in Buxton in the late 1950’s, Brian was working at the Palace Hotel and Audrey in the Wimpy Bar, their eyes met over the counter when Brian was buying his lunch!
Soon after, they moved to work in the hotel business in Newquay and married there. They had three children and when Audrey’s father became ill moved back to the Buxton area in 1964, where they lived ever since both working at ICI Tunstead quarry.
Brian completed many Scally Rallies raising thousands of pounds for charities. He eventually persuaded Audrey to join him when he rallied to Rome and she absolutely loved the experience.
They have travelled the world through rallying, also in their touring caravan. Scotland was a particular favourite where they bought their dog, the runt of a litter Audrey had fallen in love with and who they named Skye.
Brian remembers a trip to the Rio Grande where they white water rafted and Audrey couldn’t swim but had a brilliant time and fortunately didn’t fall out of the raft!
In April 2013 Audrey suffered a stroke and consequently spent some time in a care home, it was felt that Brian wouldn’t be able to cope on his own with her at home. However eventually he wanted Audrey to be at home and a care package was put in place, it was one of the carers who made Brian aware of the additional support Helen’s Trust might be able to provide to ensure that Audrey could stay at home and that Brian would be able to have some much needed time to recharge his batteries.
Helen’s Trust provided some night sits. This enabled Brian to visit his brother overnight in Nuneaton and also to complete a rally in Blackpool, it meant so much to Brian to be able to continue with something which has been of such importance through his life.
