2009 Wendy's Walk

For the third year running, the husband and daughters of much loved local lady Wendy Bowering, were joined by about 100 friends and their 4-legged companions, to take part in a 6 mile sponsored walk for local charity Helen's Trust - raising an amazing £2,000!

In the final year of her life, when her cancer meant she could no longer walk, Wendy organized the first "Wooftie Walk" and the family continues the tradition every year around the time of her birthday. The event has raised over £8,000 over the past three years.

The walk was opened by the Duchess of Devonshire, also patron of Helen's Trust and was also attended by the Duke of Devonshire.

Gordon Bowering, Wendy's husband, said "Wendy had such a massive love of walking her dogs and so this is a fitting tribute to her memory. Helen's Trust were fantastic and provided just the help we needed in the final year of Wendy's life and so helping them fundraise in this way is the least we can do."

Dr Louise Jordan, Chair of Trustee's for Helen's Trust said "Wendy's Walk is an annual event we all look forward to and its so humbling to know we have this support of local people - they fundraise for us as they know the money may benefit someone they may know."

Wendy's Walk will take place next year on 3rd October 2010.
