Helen's Trust initially secured funding for a year's pilot in the Sheffield 5 district.
Terminally ill home care scheme extended (news article)
The Charity worked with two practices from this area to fund whatever is needed to enable those with incurable illnesses to have the choice to stay in their own home. The pilot was launched in January 2007 in the presence of the Duchess of Devonshire and has already been very popular and successful.
Sheffield is a very different geographical area from the original Hope Valley, Derbyshire area, with clients with very different needs and differing statutory services. From 2008 the area expanded to include Wincobank Medical Centre, Firth Park Surgery, Barnsley Road Surgery, Page Hall Medical Centre, Upwell Street Surgery and Dunninc Road Surgery adding a population of approximately 30,000.
From 1st January 2009 Burngreave Surgery, Pitsmoor Surgery and Sheffield Medical Centre; and from 1st July 2009 Buchanan Road Surgery, Elm Lane Surgery and Norwood Medical Centre all joined the Project.
